camp cry for absolution 𓆝 disappearance

Sticks and leaves stick into Foxtail's long pelt as he races into camp, his heart beating nearly as fast as it did earlier. His heart races in his ears as the warrior skids to a stop in the middle of camp, and Foxtail pants.... briefly quickly in and out, barely taking time to allow his lungs to relax. Foxtail's paws shake, but even more than usual. It's quite normal for the tom to be trembling time to time, but his clanmates would notice this is out of the ordinary. This is all my fault, Foxtail gulps at the thought, his ears pinned back. If I didn't ask Hazecloud to accompany me on a walk, she never would've fallen into that trap.

Oh StarClan, what's Lichenstar going to think? She must've been worried sick when she fell into a trap, and now she'll have to worry about Hazecloud's safety, and if she'll ever see her mate again. What about Pebblepaw and her young kits? Oh StarClan, did he just cost them their mother...? His legs tremble as he looks over at the first cat his eyes land onto.

"L-Lichenstar," He gasps out, tears swelling in his olive green eyes. "...Where is she?" The tom's eyes were wide with guilt.... why did he have to make it out okay when Hazecloud didn't? When Turtlepaw didn't? His stomach turns the thought, it should've been him trapped in both scenarios, but the young warrior manages to look back over at his clanmate. "I... I-I need her n-now," His voice trembles with a weak mew, his tail hanging low and swishing nervously.

𓆝 . ° ✦ Mosspool had been sitting alone quietly, eating her catch from earlier in the day when the commotion began. Foxtail barreling into camp drew her attention immediately, and she was on her paws before he even came to a stop. He was not usually the most composed cat, but even for his standards he was out of sorts. "Breathe." She told him firmly as he panted and shook. With a flick of her tail she let the rest of the camp know to give him space, as she had seen Moonbeam and Ravensong before him do.

After a moment to collect himself, finally he spoke. Only asking for Lichenstar. The way his voice trembled made her heart sink. "What has happened?" She asked, preparing herself for the worst. Already she was thinking of two-legs. The clan had seen so much of them of late that it felt like a blessing that nothing terrible had happened yet. Maybe their luck had finally run out.

    MOSSPOOL — SHE/HER ・ 17 MOONS ・ WARRIOR of RIVERCLAN ・ PENNED BY @empyrean !
Longhair black tabby with deep green eyes. Mosspaw is a very tall molly, standing a head above most cats her age. She has a slim, willowy physique with subtle musculature built up from a lifetime of constant training that lends itself well to swimming and running. Long, thick brown fur falls over her form with tabby patterning across it. Her eyes are a vibrant green, and shine with a bright intelligence and confidence.

Another asking for Lichenstar. Horizonkit flattens his ears, as if tuning him out would erase what he had to say. Not another one. He almost whispers it, but glancing around, he sees no one to whisper it to. The stormy kitten carefully grabs his snail friend between his teeth and sneaks closer to the reedy entrance of camp, nestling himself in the tall shoregrass as he deems himself close enough.

A long-legged, dark-haired tabby strides towards the messenger. She commands him to breathe? Horizonkit cocks his head. Then, a more sensible question. Neither of them immediately seek out Lichenstar, nor is the lanky, jagged presence of his mother here. Eveningkit had been the one to call for her next time, so the most natural consequence of that would be that it's Horizonkit's turn to go fetch her.

He lets his snail onto a dangling blade of grass—"I'll be back, 'kay?" he whispers—and scuttles across camp to the comforting shadow of the old willow tree. Hazecloud hasn't come back from her walk yet, and besides, she wouldn't mind him running across camp if he stayed in camp. "Mom! Mom!" he bays, like a hound on the scent-trail. "Theres, there's another cat!" Missing, he should finish, but the word lodges in his throat like a clump of wet sand as he skids to a halt before her.

Like the glowing embers of a dying campfire, Robinheart's mottled pelt warms beneath the sunlight blessed camp. The entrance of the nursery is a mere tail length away - her kittens safe within as their mother takes a moment to herself. It's getting easier now to spend time outside of the nursery, to integrate herself a little bit more, moments fleeting but oh so important for the queen's healing heart.

Or at least they should have been healing moments, but Foxtail's barreling into camp, panicking and breathless say otherwise.

Citrine eyes widen and Robinheart pushes herself to her paws, tempting a step toward her friend. "Foxtail?" She had seen him very briefly earlier, interacting with Hazecloud and escorting the older queen from the nursery to go on a walk. So… where… where was she? Please no, she thinks as she looks just beyond him - watching the entrance of camp expecting to see her denmate return safe and sound. Please no. No, no, no… not Hazecloud. He wouldn't have abandoned her. The ginger warrior was much too loyal - too just and kind - to even fathom such a thing.

"Not her. Please Foxtail, say it's not so," the tortie begs softly as her ears angle back and countenance falls. She fears what he has to say next, what he is to reveal to Lichenstar and everyone else. Damn those twolegs… Haven't they taken enough?

⋅˚₊‧ ଳ ‧₊˚ ⋅ Small teeth crunched at the remains of his lunch, and despite his size, Dawnkit makes sure he leaves no scraps of the tiny fish he was munching on. It didn't faze him to see another cat rushing into camp like there was a fox at their tail. But he did turn his head to see the white and red warrior covered in foliage. Nobody ran like that carrying good news, he knows this and yet he still drifted over with flattened ears.

"You're shaking, are you hurt?" The kit was no expert in adult wounds; perhaps a wounded mind? though he was unsure what could scare the warrior so badly. Unless… was it a Twoleg's attack ?

"I thought you and Hazecloud went with you on a walk; where is she?" He hesitantly asks what was previously unspoken. Perhaps they had simply parted ways? Worry etched his brows he knows that Foxtail would never leave his clanmate to face any danger alone. So either they weren't together or he became alone due to something out of his control. " Is she hurt?

  • The sky bleed in shadows and peach-painted strokes where sun crashes in heavenly descent towards the vanishing point of foliage that hungrily seeks to devour it. It is agonizing to watch it, as the transition from light and dark sings of harmonious, familiar pelts that now litter the night sky as twinkling, watching stars. They are peering from their seats high above the clouds and do not forfeit their thoughts in glimmering morse code.

Kitten-soft cries summon her if only because she does not recognize the difference between calls for Hazecloud and calls for herself... The two had not thought far enough ahead, in planning this litter, how they might differentiate one parent from the other and whatever pattern their kits have been smart enough to conjure goes largely unnoticed. Horizonkit more now than ever serves as a split-soul mirror of his brother... and with a struggling breath of calm, the branch-jagged molly stands from her distracted staring to find him scampering wildly towards an old willow den left abandoned.

"Another cat what... sun-blossom?" Whatever news he intends to share seems held hostage behind his teeth but doesn't need coaxing before the scene reveals itself for what it is. Foxtail hunkers at the edge of camp as if the last leaf clinging to a tree at the end of leaf-fall, desperately shaking against any gentle breeze that brushes past. The presence of one of her lead warriors is enough to draw her concern, placing only the most delicate press of her nose against Horizonkit's forehead before stepping over him carefully to join the growing crowd.

Robinheart's voice cracks with an anxious sorrow that isn't wholly unfamiliar and for a moment, she wonders if something has happened in the nursery, that maybe Foxtail had gone looking for a foolhardy escapee not so different from Nettlepaw, when he'd been smaller. It isn't tiny, wanderlust-drawn paws that are missing though- "Are you hurt?" It is the most immediate concern that crosses her mind, oblivious to the lack of fog-swirl fur in the vain hope she is simply napping- without Moonbeam, there is little to be done for those injured in their grapple for survival against the Twolegs.

Foxtail's limbs tremble as Mosspool heads over to him. His ears are pinned back, but he can hear her voice clearly... "Breathe." Foxtail takes in a deep breath in, and exhales, but his body still trembles. He does it again and again for a quick moment, as the lead warrior singles her clanmates to give him space. It helps momentarily, but the trembling doesn't stop. "What has happened?" She asks him, but his ears twitch up at the young voice of Horizonkit yowling for Lichenstar. His heart aches at the young voice; there is no stress in that tone, no fear. ....Unlike the older cats who approach the young warrior, Horizonkit understand the severity of the twoleg situation. To the young kit, he must believe Hazecloud will be back any minute.... and StarClan he wishes that were the case.

Before he can open his maw to speak, soft paw steps cause his ears to prick, and he can feel his stomach twisting already as Robinheart speaks his name. "Foxtail?" ....He remembers seeing his friend in the nursery when he picked up Hazecloud for a walk earlier. He had told her that they would only be gone for a bit... and Hazecloud would be back to attend her kits in no time. His stomach twists even more as his friend speaks with such a desperate.... terrified voice, practically begging him not to tell her the truth. His paws tremble and his ears pin back again, and the warrior finds himself having to sit down. "I.... I wish I could tell you what you want to h-hear," His voice waivers as a single tear rolls down his cheek.

"You're shaking, are you hurt?" Foxtail merely shakes his head in response to young Dawnkit, he wasn't hurt physically... that's for sure. On the other hand, the warrior felt shaken to his core. He might've been able to race back to camp with leaves and sticks stuck to his fur, but Hazecloud is currently trapped in a cage.... all alone.... far away from her beloved clan. "I thought you and Hazecloud went with you on a walk; where is she?" Foxtail winces at the question like it hurt. Is she hurt? He repeats her question in his mind, and he can only hope and pray to StarClan that the twolegs won't hurt her. "...I don't k-know."

He looks up, his olive green eyes landing onto Lichenstar's blue. Oh Silverpelt above, he feels nervous to break this news to her.... if she hadn't been able to make a guess at whom got stolen away this time. This cat is her mate. A mother to her children, whom will be missing the warmth of Hazecloud tonight in the nursery. And it's all because of him. "I-It's Hazecloud," He finally speaks up with a quivering voice, and his body trembles. He rips his gaze away from his leader, and stares at his claws that dig into the earth. He can't bare to see the look of absolute saddness, despair, and anger that will flash in his leader's eyes. "...I... I was escorting her on a walk," He gulps as he begins to give the quick rundown, tears swelled up in his eyes. "At one point, we were p-practicing battle moves," incase twolegs ever attack her, "A-and she fell right into a trap."

At this point, Foxtail's head hangs low, he can't bare to look at anyone right now. "...I'm... I-I'm so sorry," Foxtail mews, guilt heavy in his tone. It seems like the young warrior has convinced himself that it is he whom's at fault for this incident. "I-I tried to help her e-escape," He feels frustration that he didn't have enough time to get the trap open, but he couldn't have been prepared for a twoleg to grab him. "But a t-twoleg grabbed me, and another one threw her into a m-monster while I f-fought it back," His voice is weak and ashamed, his ears flattened to his skull. They distracted me.

"Are you hurt?"

Lichenstar's voice reaches his ears, and the young warrior shakes his head. "...N-no, I'm not," He murmurs a response, guilt radiating off of his body. The young warrior didn't even get to think about potential injuries of his own; he can only think of Hazecloud. "P-please forgive me," He whispers as his paws tremble, "...Please."
